NT government offers $10m to avert fishing closures by Aboriginal groups

The Northern Territory government will stump up $10 million in a last-minute bid to stop Aboriginal groups closing vast stretches of the Top End coastline to commercial and amateur fishers from as early as next month.

The closure, which industry lobby groups are warning could devastate businesses and restrict the famous “Territory lifestyle”, is on the brink of being pushed through by the powerful following a resolution at a meeting last week.
