A jury has acquitted a Northern Territory police officer who was accused of stealing guns while head of the firearms regulation unit.

The Supreme Court jury in Darwin retired on Monday afternoon to deliberate the fate of Peter Ruzsicska, and after three-and-a-half hours returned a verdict of not guilty to all charges.

Sergeant Ruzsicska is the former head of NT Police’s Firearms Policy and Records Unit, which manages licences, permits and seizures.
